Himmelbyen is rising

Himmelbyen is an innovative building project currently taking shape in Copenhagen – a new landmark in Ørestad Syd stacking the different functions of the city creating an entire new housing area at 18 meters height with 128 apartments and a stunning view over the city.

Measuring 27.500 m2 Himmelbyen will be a distinctive part of the city, that comprises different functions to meet the varying needs of the areas’ residents during a day. This week we celebrated the topping out ceremony on the unique building project.

“Himmelbyen is a building project that densifies the city. With urbanization it is necessary to think in new ways to compress the city. This is a complex project because we stack more of the city’s facilities and functions in the same building plot. Thus, we shape an ultra-urbanization project, “says Creative Director Mikkel Westfall about the main thrust of the project.

Himmelbyen will soon comprise 128 apartments, two grocery stores, a Dinos Play Centre and Pelican Selfstorage. The project takes its name with reference to the building’s residential area, where the arrival to the 128 apartments takes place at 18 meters height extending up to 34 meters above the ground – from here the future residents will have a unique view of the city and Amager Fælled.

Upon arrival the residents will meet a green courtyard, which will form the common area for the future residents – from here you can access the apartments on the upper levels.

“Himmelbyen is a project that stands out and which will be recognized from other buildings. It is a special project for Copenhagen, for Ørestad and for the future users and residents,” says Mikkel Westfall.

Himmelbyen, which will be completed in 2019, is developed in cooperation with NREP, CG Jensen, ÅF, Moe Rådgivende Ingeniører, By & Havn and Copenhagen Municipality.
