New emergency care centre at Regional Hospital Viborg is a finalist for the MIPIM Awards 2020

The new emergency department at Regional Hospital Viborg, designed by Årstiderne Arkitekter and AART, is a finalist at the prestigious MIPIM Awards 2020, an architectural prize that will be awarded at Cannes on 12 March.

All of 228 building projects from 44 countries have been nominated for this year’s MIPIM Awards. The announcement of this year’s finalists further winnows the field within the award’s 11 categories, including “Best Healthcare Development”, where Årstiderne Arkitekter and AART are one of four finalists for their design of the new emergency department at Regional Hospital Viborg.

The MIPIM Awards is the real-estate industry’s equivalent of Palme d’Or and the prizes are awarded each year at a large awards ceremony at MIPIM in Cannes, honouring the world’s best building projects over the past year.

“It’s a great honour to be nominated for such a prestigious architectural prize together with AART. Workflow is crucial to hospital design, because every single unnecessary metre of floor space which staff have to cover will adversely affect patient safety, working environment and, thus, the hospital’s long-term operating economy. Therefore, the new emergency department is organised with special focus on minimising the distance between different functions and ensuring consistent logic in the interior décor, to create ideal conditions for employees and individual patients alike,” according to Rasmus Tøgern, Creative Manager, Årstiderne Arkitekter.

Whether or not Årstiderne Arkitekter and AART make off with the award for Best Healthcare Development will be announced on Thursday 12 March when the MIPIM Awards 2020 are conferred at a major award ceremony at the Palais des Festival during this year’s real estate fair in Cannes.
