A green urban oasis near the city centre

Kongegården is a new residential area and is like a little oasis just a few metres from the centre of Silkeborg, but with the qualities of the suburbs and the residential area in the form of an environment that encourages life and community and provides residents with a sense of security.

The development as a whole consists of both social housing and private properties. Consisting of private town houses and a block in addition to a Rema1000 supermarket with properties above it. The development is to be built as smaller, staggered 3–4-storey “blocks”, creating a diverse and varied body. The buildings will be built of brick in various shades, and with bays, recesses and balconies to create diversity.

The outdoor areas between the buildings are generally reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, forming areas conducive to play and relaxation.

The industrial building on the plot is to be maintained and a grocery store will be built on the ground floor, with properties on two floors above the shop.

The town houses will be built on two floors with a pitched roof, as an interpretation and reflection of the scale on the opposite side of the street. The buildings will be built to create both a homogeneity and diversity in building mass. Small gardens are to be created out to Valdemarsgade, with midday and evening sun.
