Fredericia Furniture

A showroom in a distinctive and historical setting

Following the extensive renovation and revitalisation of the former post office premises Postgården in Købmagergade in central Copenhagen, the top two floors of the imposing building now house Fredericia Furniture’s exclusive showroom.

‘Interurbansalen’ was previously used as an exchange for telephone calls to and from Copenhagen by the Danish State Telegraph Service. As part of the comprehensive renovation work, the skylights in the hall have been uncovered and the large windows converted into French balconies in order to fully exploit the spectacular views and natural light.

The attractive coffered ceiling has been restored and fitted with acoustic dampening. All the surfaces have been renewed, and new plank flooring has been laid to enhance the room’s fine lines and details.

Fredericia Furniture’s administration now occupies offices on the fifth floor in a new extension. The walls here are mostly glass, and you almost feel as though you are floating between the city roofs. Highly discreet furnishings and materials have been chosen, with dark surfaces and a matt, steel-trowelled concrete floor, so that all the focus is on the furniture. The fashionable look has been continued out onto the spacious rooftop terrace, which is paved with large, specially designed fibre concrete slabs.

In all the rooms, the architecture and the materials combine to create a discreet background for Fredericia Furniture’s exclusive products, which are now displayed in a characterful and historical setting high above the Copenhagen rooftops.
