From disused factory site to attractive shopping facilities

Following extensive revitalisation, a disused factory site north of Copenhagen has been turned into an attractive retail centre with a strong, recognisable identity and scope for future expansion.

The developer NPV wanted to convert the former DISA factory site north of Copenhagen into a new regional shopping centre with grocery stores and shops. Årstiderne Arkitekter has contributed to the design and construction of BIG, a shopping centre with a total of 25 retail units.

We were involved in the project from the first initial sketches in 2011 through to handover in October 2015. The transformation was preceded by a regulatory planning process involving the preparation of a new district plan, municipal plan, environmental assessment as well as environmental impact assessments and an environmental report. In addition, it included the implementation of traffic planning, logistics planning, customer flow, parking and landscaping.

Good parking facilities on several levels as well as the separation of logistics and customer flow ensure clear and safe traffic conditions for customers.
